The successful applicant will provide leadership to our growing social media team, managing social media strategists to the highest of standards of quality and efficiency. Applicants must have a background in social media management, excellent communication skills, great people instincts, and strong accountability for team success. As a team member with hiring responsibilities, this role is not a part of the union bargaining unit.
Job Responsibilities
Team Management
- Accountable for a team of social media strategists
- Recruit, hire, train, and retain social media team members
- Manage a team budget for overhead and staffing
- Guide team members to identify and work toward professional development goals, including by providing periodic performance reviews for all staff
- Provide ongoing feedback and performance management
- Keep team informed about company-wide processes, policies, and priorities
- Act as ambassador for the social media team to other teams
- Manages Middle Seat’s social media accounts; generates content for those accounts

Client Work
- Establish and oversee best practices, systems, and processes for the social media team to meet high standards for innovation, accessibility, communication, collaboration, and efficiency – delivering work to clients on time and of an exceptional quality
- Managing, maintaining, improving, and optimizing client social media accounts
- Crafting and implementing innovative, effective social media growth strategies
- Contributing to significant growth of client social media followings
- Crafting and implementing social media management strategies
- Crafting social media posting schedules
- Posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other client social media platforms
- Maintaining a robust cadence of social media posting that is responsive to breaking news and other major moments
- Identifying opportunities to create rapid response and other major social media moments
- Researching issues relevant to our clients in order to identify salient topics and content for social media posts and graphics
- Remaining plugged in to political news and overall trends in progressive politics
- Staying abreast of social media trends; identifying opportunities to successfully use those trends to benefit clients
- Managing and interfacing with clients directly (potentially including Members of Congress, Senators, and other major figures)
- Develops systems and procedures for developing optimal content for different social media platforms and different audiences within each platform
- Produce compelling, on-brand graphics to accompany social media content
- Use data to develop social media creative that is effective and accomplishes client goals
- Develop systems of reporting to convey social media performance to clients
- Research new social media platforms, tools, and emerging social media trends
- Determine how to leverage new platforms, tools, and trends to the benefit of clients
- Provide constructive feedback and creative direction to social media team members to ensure that best practices are maintained
- Other responsibilities as requested
Business Development
- Pitch prospective clients (and upsell existing clients) on social media work
- Attend new business meetings to assess needs, budget, and fit for potential social media retainers and projects
- Develop strategies for packaging social media services to clients
- Onboard new clients and provide team members with relevant information and guidance to execute new work
- Work collaboratively with leadership team members on full-service proposals when needed
- Ensure sales documents for social media work are maintained in adherence with established company processes
- Other responsibilities as requested
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year experience managing
- Minimum 4 years experience in social media
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated aptitude in leadership, management, and collaboration
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Curiosity as it relates to the social media discipline, as well as the work of our ads and emails teams
- Advanced graphic design skills
- Ability to manage clients autonomously
- Ability to write for various social media platforms
- Writing is almost entirely free of errors
- Ability to adeptly adapt writing to conform to client voices and perspectives
- A desire to play a leading strategic role in social media for major political campaigns, nonprofits, and causes
- A desire to play a leading strategic role in helping to grow Middle Seat’s social media vertical and team
- Strong attention to detail
- Remarkable integrity and discretion
Strongly Preferred but Not Required
- Video editing experience
- Experience with ActBlue

- Salary starts between $75,000 and $88,000
